The winner will be announced on WCLV Monday, May 16 at 7:20 a.m. EDT and posted here. The contenders:
- A new canine friend made by a Florida sheriff’s deputy when the Palm Beach County officer opened the door of his patrol vehicle and the dog, which was running at large, jumped into the passenger seat. The dog was subsequently reunited with his family;
- The man in Taiwan who has developed a fish tank on wheels so he can take his fish for a walk;
- The woman from Utah who, having attended a taxidermy class in New York City, lost her taxidermy rat. A TV news story about the Salt Lake City Airport lost-and-found featured the stuffed rat, which the woman assumed had been left in a ride-sharing vehicle. The woman’s husband saw the story on TV, and alerted his wife, who claimed her rat;
- Bailey, the 7-month-old mixed-breed puppy, who escaped from his Brooklyn, N.Y. home, and over several days was seen walking through the Holland Tunnel and the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, as well as swimming in Gowanus Bay, before making his way to a Home Depot parking garage ledge in Jersey City, where he was rescued, presumably unrepentant;
- Nala, a puppy who surprised Julie and Jimmy, a couple from Ocoee, Tenn., when they woke up to find the dog sleeping between them in bed. Nala is NOT their dog. They later surmised that Nala got in the house overnight after the husband failed to shut the door completely after letting their dogs out. There was a storm that night, and they subsequently learned that Nala was afraid of loud noises. The theory is that Nala, who had slipped out of her collar and was wandering in the woods, went to the first house she could find. Nala was returned to her owners, who scheduled a play date with Julie and Jimmy’s trio of dogs – Zeppelin, Hollis and Jupiter.
