Bhakta Rizal is a refugee from Bhutan who has resettled in Akron. He started Shanti Farms, a non-profit urban farming project focused on immigrant communities.

Greater Akron Lok Dohori Samuha is a gathering of Lhotshampa (Bhutanese refugees from Nepal) who play traditional Nepalese music.
