Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, died Monday at age 100, leaving a lasting legacy as a champion of peace, health and democracy.
In this conversation from 2020, "Sound of Ideas" host Rick Jackson spoke with author Jonathan Alter who called Carter one of the "most misunderstood" American Presidents.
Alter has written biographies on several former presidents before, and in this work, called, "His Very Best: Jimmy Carter, A Life," he argues that Carter's presidency may not have been the failure it's been made out to be. He paints a picture of a misunderstood, yet revered man.
