This week on the "Sound of Ideas," we featured our annual program focusing on books we look forward to reading in the New Year. Those included books our panelists recommended, as well as suggestions from listeners.
To begin today's show, we have invited in an author of one more book of note.
Bradley Onishi has crafted a gripping narrative on the history of White Christian Nationalism, with an exploration of what comes next. It's an examination of many of the elements that lead to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol building in Washington DC, which occurred two years ago this week.
It's called "Preparing For War: The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism--and What Comes Next." The work of course looks at the development of this movement, and the lead up to the attack on the Capitol, but it also looks at the landscape to come, and how much this nationalist thinking poses as a threat to our democracy.
Onishi co-hosts the podcast “Straight White American Jesus.” He and co-host Daniel Miller are ex-evangelical ministers who are now religious scholars and who examine the culture and politics of Christian Nationalism, and Evangelicalism.
We spend the hour with Onishi.
