Monday, we received another somewhat unexpected COVID-19 press briefing from Governor Mike DeWine. Those are usually held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but as the pandemic continues to spread nearly unchecked, the press briefing was certainly warranted.
That conference was held amidst the news that Ohio's hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have hit an all time high. Patients in intensive care units, and on ventilators are also at a high.
Then yesterday, we saw another 9,000 positive COVID cases added, 119 deaths recorded, and we had 575 'new' hospitalizations.
The Governor also spoke on the heels of the Thanksgiving weekend. State and local officials, along with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, had advised that families Not gather for the holiday to help curb the spread. But judging from the social media posts of crowds at airports nationwide, a post-Thanksgiving surge could easily be days from outbreak.
This morning, we'll start the hour with the latest on the coronavirus numbers, the briefing from the Governor, and other Statehouse happenings.
Later in the show, as the pandemic keeps many of us inside, we'll talk to a doctor from MetroHealth about the problems that lack of activity and isolation can cause, for senior citizens.
And finally we'll discuss the offshoot of the previous 6 months bringing unprecedented growth; in bicycle sales.
More bikes on the roads but more bikes on the road means a greater need to understand the rules of the road for cyclists and motorists. Attorney and cyclist Ken Knabe talks to us about his new book "Cycling Rights".
