There is a lot in the United States that divides us. Just flip on cable TV or check your Twitter feed. We have differences over politics, difficulties with race relations, disagreements over immigration, health care and economic policy. But we are Americans. Is there still a common ideal that unites us? A shared American cause? What does it mean to you to be an American?
We'll talk with two of the Americans featured in the PBS documentary, "American Creed," made by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer Prize winning historian David Kennedy.
Then, we'll meet Lara Lillibridge and talk about her new memoir, "Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home."
- Sgt. Tegan Griffith, U.S. Marine Corps, American Creed
- Terrence Davenport, Social Entrepreneur, American Creed
- Danielle Sarver Coombs, Ph.D., Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication; Kent State University
- Lara Lillibridge, Author, "Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home"

*The launch of American Creed, a PBS special co-produced by Citizen Film and WTTW, is catalyzing a robust national public engagement campaign made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). A national series of community and school-based conversations with public media stations around the country and with Facing History and Ourselves’ national network of students and teachers supported by The Allstate Foundation, will provide students and the community opportunities to engage with the idea of a unifying national identity based on shared ideals.
