Your Answers: What steps can you take to trick-or-treat safely?

In this week's episode, we learn about a Wisconsin community getting ready for trick-or-treating. We want to know: what steps would you take to trick or treat safely?

"For Halloween this year, we have to take steps so no one catches COVID-19. Firstly, everyone should be wearing masks, including the people passing out candy! Also, people should put signs that say "stand here" in front of their homes. The signs would be 6 feet apart for kids to stand on while trick-or-treating.

Of course, everyone should social distance. Like Rick said, if you are giving out candy, turn your porch lights on, and if you are not, turn your porch lights off. Also, make sure you trick-or-treat with your family only; no friends. Also, you should trick-or-treat in your neighborhood. If you don't have one, trick or treat at limited houses. If you follow these steps, there is mostly no chance that you would get COVID-19."

-Sanvi from Avon Heritage Elementary in Avon

"Find large parking areas and do treat or treating out of trunks. This would allow people to stay spaced out. You can have people follow a one-way line so people can stay 6 feet apart while walking to the cars like walking one way down the aisle in the grocery store.

I think it will keep people safe along with mask, gloves and hand sanitizer. Also, I think that making trick-or-treat bag candy donations to kids in hospitals would be nice. They could pick the bags up around their hospitals like at the IX center."

-Lysandria from Chardon Hills Elementary in Euclid

"One step that should be taken to trick-or-treat safely would be to wear a mask if you want candy. You also won't be allowed to take the candy. The people that bought the treats would have to give it to you. That way, your germs wouldn't get all over the bowl and the candy.

You would also have to only allow a maximum of five people in one yard at a time to ensure that there is only a limited amount of close contact."

-Hughie from Copley-Fairlawn Middle School in Copley

"I think that the guidelines should be to wear a mask, have parents bring hand sanitizer, wear gloves and only give out packaged candy.

I don't know if trick-or-treating is the best idea, though. Little kids may have trouble with taking all the precautions while they're out trick or treating."

-Lewis from Summit Elementary in Cincinnati

"In my opinion, I think that Halloween should not be canceled because it is a holiday. To be safe, you should wear a mask and make sure you are 6 feet apart from everyone except for your family.

Also, at home, you can put duct tape on the front porch and on the sidewalk to help kids and parents stay 6 feet apart. If you do hand out candy, you should wear a mask. You should wash your hands before and after you hand out candy, or wear gloves. These things will help you stay safe so that Halloween is not canceled."
