It's time for our very first A+ of the season. Each week, we give a shout out to one of you, sometimes teams of you for the awesome work you've been up to.
Our NewsDepth A+ this week goes to two students who created a video about a business idea they had that helps other students. 11th graders, Amaree Clark and Nicholas Reese of North High School in Akron won the top prize in the Ohio Afterschool Network's Pitch Challenge.
The Ohio Afterschool Network asks students all across the state to come up with a business plan and create a pitch video. Amaree and Nicholas created a business called "There's Still Hope," the idea to provide tutors who would go to a student's home and give that student one-on-one help during the coronavirus pandemic as they learn remotely.
This way, as they say in their video, everyone can understand the lecture, everyone understands the directions and everyone who wants to succeed does. Nicholas said brainstorming the ideas was the funnest part, Amaree said she liked editing the video and putting it together and they both agreed they wanted a business that makes a difference.
Amaree and Nicholas said their entrepreneurship class and marketing class helped them with the project and they both want to be filmmakers. So out of 88 submissions, Amaree and Nicholas won first place in the high school category for their pitch. One of their prizes is the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with an actual entrepreneur. Plus they get to take a three-day online course all about starting a business.
So way to go Amaree and Nicholas, we are proud to award you this week's NewsDepth A+ for coming up with a business idea and creating a compelling video that shows you care about others.
Submit your ideas for our NewsDepth A+ segment to newsdepth@ideastream.org for consideration.
