A Plus: High School Student Cameron Ray Gets College Degree

Cameron Ray Graduation

READ THE SCRIPT:

Alright -- I think it is about time that we recognize one of you for the awesome work you’ve been up to!

This week’s NewsDepth A Plus award goes to a high school student who recently crossed the stage wearing his cap and gown… but not for his high school graduation.

Warrensville Heights High School junior Cameron Ray graduated from college -- two years before he’s set to graduate from high school.

Cameron took classes at Cuyahoga Community College and earned enough credits to graduate with his associate’s degree back in December.

Now, he’s taking classes at Cleveland State University to get his Bachelor’s degree in film directing.

Cameron earned the credits through the College Credit Plus program. He wanted to participate in CCP because his older brother had done it, and his parents encouraged him to follow his lead. He said his biggest challenge was learning how to manage his time between his high school work and college classes -- and not procrastinate. But, he said the experience has helped him become more independent.

For anyone who might want to earn college credits while still in high school, Cameron says, “It’s not as intimidating or as hard as it seems. Attack the challenge and believe in yourself.”

He also says, “just be you and don’t be afraid to be you.”

Cameron’s plan is to get his bachelor’s degree from CSU in 2021, and then work on his master’s degree at the Ohio State University. He also plays on his high school’s baseball team, and hopes he’ll be able to play at OSU someday.

Congratulations, Cameron! Your hard work has truly paid off. We’re proud to award you this week’s NewsDepth A Plus.
