A Plus: Payton Obert Sells Lemonade for Hospital Toys

READ THE SCRIPT:

This week’s A Plus goes to go a Colerain Township student who set up a lemonade stand to raise money to purchase toys for kids in the hospital.

When second grader Payton Obert learned that toy donations were down at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, she got to work. She’s mixing a sweet drink to solve the problem.

The cause holds a special meaning to Payton. She was gifted a teddy bear during a hospital visit of her own. Now she wants other kids to have the same experience.

She said “maybe if they're scared or they can't bring their favorite stuffed animal, then they can get a new toy from the hospital and they can have another thing to love.”

Payton received her teddy bear when she was one and half and since then, has only slept without him once.

This is the second year she served lemonade for her local hospital. In 2018, Payton raised $700.

This year, she hit the street, passing out flyers so her neighbors would know the money was going to a good cause. Well the marketing worked! People lined up for a refreshing drink a half hour early on that August morning. Donations continued coming in even after the event. So far, Payton has raised over $6,000 for the hospital.

Due to the overwhelming response, Cincinnati Children’s set up a link on their website for people to continue donating. There is a need for toys all year round so Payton isn’t done yet. She has big plans for her lemonade stand, including franchising and sponsorship!

Wow! Great work Payton. We’re proud to award you this week’s NewsDepth A Plus!
