Minority men in American have some of the highest rates of cancer and the shortest life expectancies. But if caught in the early stages, many of the diseases that disproportionately affect them can be successfully treated or prevented. The Cleveland Clinic aims to remove barriers to care through its annual Minority Men’s Health Care Fair. Now in its 16th year, three Clinic locations will serve as fair locations this Thursday, April 19. To hear more about the event and minority health disparities, ideastream’s Rick Jackson spoke with Dr. Charles Modlin, director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Men’s Minority Health Center, and to Waverly Willis, a patient of Dr. Modlin. Willis also has started the Urban Barber Association which works with local barber shops to get health information into minority communities.
