Adults in the U.S. have about a 1 in 3 lifetime chance of developing cancer. And it’s projected that by 2030 the number of new cancer cases will increase by 45% and cancer will outrank heart disease as the nation’s top killer.
This week as part of our continuing Be Well health series, we kick off a multi-media project focused on cancer, exploring issues related to treatment, prevention, diagnosis, and, most importantly, cancer’s impact on Northeast Ohio patients and families.
Thanks to advancements in treatment, more and more people are surviving their disease and those with incurable cancers can be kept alive longer because doctors now have tools to manage their disease as a chronic condition. Producer Kay Colby gives us a taste of what it’s like to live in the shadow of advanced stage cancer.
