The funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce will go toward developing and producing the next generation of rubber and plastics.

Akron was selected as one of 31 tech hubs from a pool of 500 applicants, according to Sen. Sherrod Brown's office. The city is now eligible to compete for a $20 million to $70 million implementation award.
