Cleveland State University’s Board of Trustees voted Thursday to change the longtime name of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in light of recent scrutiny of the college’s namesake, former Chief Justice John Marshall, who owned slaves.

The two Northeast Ohio schools announced a joint exploratory group Thursday to consider the creation of a unified school housed on both campuses.
