The Safe Place Program is being implemented in Akron to swiftly help those affected by a hate crime. The city and police department will partner with businesses to offer training.

The city of Akron scored 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index. The index rates municipal law and policy on its support of LGBTQ+ people.

Services include HIV prevention, housing referrals, mental health and substance abuse counseling and job readiness training.
