The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the middle of a week of voluntary workouts inside a mini bubble – preparing for a season that may not start until Christmas or later.

In his first press conference since February, GM Koby Altman said the team is thrilled to be back together. But he admits it’s been difficult to evaluate new talent since the coronavirus pandemic impacted the college basketball season.

Cavs GM Koby Altman says this is an unusual year.

“This rookie class is going to be far behind because they haven’t played basketball in a long time," he said. "They don’t have workouts. They don’t have summer league. And then we don’t know what training camp is going to look like [because] it keeps getting pushed back and back. Some of these guys are not going to be play organized basketball for a long time.”

Altman says they’re still determining how they will meet with players – whether virtual or in person.

The NBA Draft is scheduled for Nov. 18, and the Cavs hold the No. 5 pick.
