Laura asks: “Do I need to get vaccinated again if I got the shot while I was infected with COVID-19?”
No, Laura doesn’t need to get re-vaccinated, said MetroHealth Director of Internal Medicine Dr. David Margolius.
“The reason that we’d want you to postpone getting the COVID vaccine if you currently have COVID is because if you have COVID, we want you to be quarantining and keeping everybody around you safe," he said.
Dr. Margolius said many people are wondering if they will need a second dose because of variants of the virus. Right now, health officials believethe vaccine is effective against the variants, and re-vaccination isn’t necessary, he said.
"We want to stop the spread of the variants," Margolius said. "And the way to do that is the folks that haven't been vaccinated. People who have already gotten the vaccine need not worry."
