Cleveland city officials received 2,304 COVID-19 non-compliance complaints about residences and businesses through July 21.
Ohio City bar TownHall tops the list with 32 safety complaints. The bar, which has been embroiled in controversy in recent weeks, also had an employee who tested positive for COVID-19.
The Walmart in Steelyard Commons was second on the city's complaint list with 26 safety complaints.
Other businesses with multiple complaints include the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo with nine, RTA with 16 and the Cuyahoga County Administration Office with eight complaints. Complaints were called in to the city's COVID-19 hotline.
According to city data, the majority of complaints submitted concerned mass gatherings, the lack of masks and social distancing violations.
The city received 395 complaints about private residences, 226 complaints about retail establishments, 203 about restaurants, and 164 about bars.
In addition to the complaints called in to the hotline, several local businesses have been cited by the city health department for violations.
City officials and state liquor agents recently cited several Cleveland nightlife spots for COVID-19 or public safety violations. Some bars had repeated citations, such as Paradise Nightclub on Frankfort Avenue.
Other bars cited include Barley House, Christie’s Cabaret, Dante’s Inferno and True Lounge.
TownHall has also been warned about overcrowding and masks. The Cleveland health department sent an investigator to TownHall Tuesday after receiving multiple complaints that the business was not following COVID-19 safety rules. According to city officials, TownHall's management provided documentation that they have since sanitized the West 25 th Street establishment. ideastream has requested a copy of the violation from the city of Cleveland.
As part of the city’s COVID-19 ordinance, businesses must meet sanitization requirements after an employee tests positive to stay open.
Requests for comment from TownHall were not immediately returned.
