The abortion bill being considered is known at the heartbeat bill. It would make an abortion illegal at the point when a fetal heartbeat can be detected.
It was passed by the Ohio House last general assembly, but died in the Senate.
The bill is opposed by many who support abortion rights. But it is also rejected by the state’s largest abortion opponent – Ohio Right to Life, which fears the bill is unconstitutional.
Some legal scholars agree. Even if this bill is voted out of this house committee, there are questions about if it has enough support among lawmakers….and if it has time to pass before the end of this year when this general assembly ends.
