Ohio Coronavirus Recommendations Say Trick Or Treat Is OK But Skip The Hayride

No hayrides, haunted houses or Halloween parties. Those are some of the recommendations in the newest coronavirus guidelines from the Ohio Department of Health. 

The guidelines released Friday are  recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health, not an order. But they do say to avoid haunted houses, hayrides and parties that include more than 10 people.

Trick-or-treating is OK, said Dan Tierney, Gov. Mike DeWine’s press secretary.

“Trick or treat can be accomplished safely with only a few minor modifications," Tierney said.

Suggested modifications include wearing masks, sanitizing surfaces and maintaining social distance. Drive through trick-or-treat events or virtual costume contests are also suggested.

ODH also said to refrain from having children select their own treats from a bowl or common container and recommends setting up a hand-sanitizing station.

“Consider placing treats on porch steps or a table in the driveway with a sign asking children to take only one. Or use other creative ways to distribute treats, such as using a candy 'slide' made of PVC pipe,” the state health department suggests.
