The Cleveland Metropolitan School District wants to update its school construction plan, but it will seek public input first.

Since the Master Facilities Plan was amended in 2014, CMSD has built nine new schools.

But CEO Eric Gordon says that over the last five years the district has seen changes in education demands, in building costs and in state funding cuts.

He says the district wants to  re-examine where new construction should happen so more students can benefit.

"It is not just enrollment numbers but it is the quality of the school, the quality of the facility and what it takes to make the school robust with viable programming," he said.

Public meetings will be held starting in April.

Gordon says he will make his recommendation to the school board for K-8 buildings in May.
