Ohio University has issued an administrative directive “as an abundance of caution” ordering a fraternity to cease all organizational activities after the death of one of its pledges.
Collin Wiant, 18, of Dublin, was found unresponsive Monday morning at an off-campus apartment which is “allegedly an unofficial annex of the Sigma Pi Epsilon chapter,” according to a release from the university.
Police reported an emergency squad run was made to 45 Mill Street. Wiant was taken to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Athens Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding Wiant’s death, but the fraternity has been given a cease and desist for all organizational activities.
“Collin was a recent pledge of the Epsilon chapter of the international social collegiate fraternity Sigma Pi,” the release stated.
The Dean of Students has contacted Wiant’s family, and the university is providing “support to students and employees affected by his loss,” the university stated.
