Akron University President Has Hope For Future Stability

For the past two years the University of Akron has faced community and campus criticism over branding and financial problems, and a decline in enrollment. The University President, Matthew Wilson, hopes to pull the school out of a nearly $18 million deficit with plans for financial stability, new investments, and growing the student body.

“We’ll be bringing back our evening college so students will have the availability to take advantage of some of the distinctive programs in the evening, on weekends, and online,” Wilson said while speaking on 90.3’s Sound of Ideas. “We’ll also be increasing our globalization. We’ve got a comprehensive march towards doing more on the international scene.”

Wilson also said there has been a 10% increase in Northeast Ohio applications and a 45-50% increase in seat deposits at the University. President Wilson mentioned to be on the lookout for Akron native LeBron James on campus periodically as well.
