Gov. John Kasich says he supports bills that would reduce the number of required testing hours. But he suggests that those who want to break away from the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, tests, should rethink that.
"I know that people are really concerned. And when they're concerned parents, I'm concerned. So they want to pull their kids out - we're not going to cut off the funding. But I would encourage parents to let your kids be tested. I mean, I think it's what you should be doing."
The Senate and House have passed individual bills that would ban schools from using those tests to determine whether a student advances to the next grade, and Senators also want a committee of educational experts to look into the testing process.
