The polling places of 26,171 Cuyahoga County voters will change for the March 17 primary, according to the county’s board of elections.
For 16,813 of those voters, the change in polling place will be permanent.
The voters have all been notified by mail, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Voters can also check their polling place at the board's website.
The changes affect mostly West Side communities, but some of the switches are also coming to Euclid and Cleveland Heights.
"We have worked hard to ensure this transition will be as seamless as possible and hope you will find this new voting location suitable to you and your fellow voters," says the letter from the board of elections regarding the temporary changes. "Unfortunately, your previous voting location has a scheduling conflict associated with the St. Patrick's Day holiday that requires us to temporarily relocate to an alternate location. We understand that this can be frustrating and want to provide you with ample notice of the change."
For the March 17 primary, three polling places will change to six different locations.
Voters who usually cast ballots at St. Patrick's Church in West Park will be moved to Gunning Recreation Center, Westropp Elementary School or Our Lady of Angels (Linus Hall).

St. Ladislas Church in Westlake voters will move to Ascent Church on Crocker Road.

And those who usually vote at Euclid's Gateway Manor will move to either Bluestone Elementary or Our Lady of the Lake.

Beyond The March 17 Primary
While St. Patrick's Day celebrations are temporarily altering some polling locations, other changes are permanant. Close to West Park, Westside Hungarian Reformed Church no longer wanted to be a polling location, according to board of elections documents. Those voters will move to Robinson G. Jones Elementary School permanently.
Voters who previously cast ballots at Rocky River Middle School will be permanently split between two locations: Rocky River Civic Center and Rocky River United Methodist Church. Some voters also will move from Rocky River Civic Center to Rocky River Presbyterian Church.
Also on the West Side, voters at Bay Village High School will move to Bay United Methodist Church, because the high school no longer wanted to be a polling location.
Other changes for voters include:
- Musician's Tower voters move to Cleveland Heights Community Center;
- Friendship Circle of Cleveland to The Church of the Western Reserve;
- Villa-Angela St. Joseph's High School to Oliver Hazard Perry Elementary School; and
- VFW Post 387 to the West Park Party Center.
