Noon(ish): How Would Development Change Pepper Pike?

There is still no blueprint for what developers want to do with a leafy, secluded, approximately 65-acre parcel of land in Pepper Pike.

That hasn’t kept city officials from considering zoning changes to allow Axiom Development Group to convert the former Beech Brook campus for troubled families into a mix of homes, offices and shops.

Many residents voiced opposition to the rezoning at a Wednesday night city council meeting, and ideastream’s Taylor Haggerty reports the discussion was heated at times.

"Even if they fix the traffic problem and even if the developer does come up with a site plan, we just don't want it,” said Judi Naft, co-founder of a group fighting the commercial development of the Beech Brook property.

It’s been eight months since Axiom pitched its plan to Pepper Pike’s city council. It didn’t have any concrete plans then, either. They described a place that would act as a town center for the city, one that would fit into its surroundings, according to cleveland.com in April.

Last night, Mayor Richard Bain noted the plan was still in the early stages, positioning the situation as an opportunity for residents to help shape it. The city will host town hall meetings next month, he said.
