The view from the Idea Center

I made a faint attempt last night to prepare for Thanksgiving, now one week away. I bought some powdered milk to make renowned pastry chef Christina Tosi’sMilk Bar Pie,” named after her bakery. It used to be called “crack pie.” Try it and tell me if you think the pie should be categorized as an addictive substance.

As you buzz from kitchen to grocery store and back, getting your ingredients together for the Big Binge, remember to set aside the to-do list and have some fun.

Check out ideastream’s list of five (now four, since one happened last weekend) cultural events happening around Thanksgiving. They include a Southern Thanksgiving cooking demo, polka party (great for burning off all those calories) and the annual tree-lighting ceremony in Cleveland’s Public Square.

If going to the movies is your way of decompressing, there’s a retrospective of the documentaries by Ohio filmmaker and Academy Award-nominee Julia Reichert underway at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinematheque. Her and co-director Steven Bognar’s new film, “American Factory,” is about a shuttered plant in Dayton that is reopened by a Chinese company to make windshields . Marketplace’s Planet Money says everyone should watch it.

“Americans know how they feel about competing with China. But we don't know how China feels about working with America,” wrote Planet Money Editor Bryant Urstadt. American Factory is the view we never get.”

ideastream’s David C. Barnett has been following Reichert’s career for a long time , and he’ll give you a glimpse into her process on “Morning Edition” tomorrow.

See you bright and early tomorrow morning on the radio,
Amy Eddings
