Woodhill Homes, a mile south of University Circle in Cleveland, is among the first public housing developments in the nation, dating to 1939. A federal grant may lead to a rebuild.

In this video feature, past and present residents reflect on their experiences living here. We also explore how Woodhill's story reflects the story of public housing — a program that began with great promise as a creator of jobs and affordable housing, but now suffers from a lack of funding and political support.

This piece is part of ideastream's Homes series, exploring the past, present and future of Woodhill Homes.

Featured in this story:

Lou Latona, former Woodhill Homes resident and retired teacher

Sonja Flemister, current Woodhill Homes resident
