A House Subcommittee on Elections, chaired by Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, will hold its second hearing Tuesday in Atlanta.
Fudge got the elections subcommittee assignment in November after throwing her support behind California Rep. Nancy Pelosi for speaker.
Fudge opened the first hearing earlier this month by calling for legislation to reverse a 2013 Supreme Court decision overturning part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
“The record that we compile today and in the coming months will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we still need the Voting Rights Act,” said Fudge.
Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams, who ran for governor last year and founded a voting rights organization, will testify at this week’s hearing.
The five congressmembers in attendance will all be Democrats and the witnesses besides Abrams include a lawyer from the ACLU and a founder of Black Votes Matter.
