Priest Abuse Victim Reacts To Midwest Jesuit Report

After the Roman Catholic order of Jesuits this week released a list of priests in the midwest they say were alleged to have sexually assaulted minors, a local counselor who works with victims says he is not impressed. 

Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) have been asking Attorneys General to investigate accusations of abuse by clergy. Counselor Anthony Cardone says the Jesuit list is not enough.

“This is just another dead priest locator list,” he said.

Most of the 65 priests on the list are now dead.  

Cardone is still waiting for the Cleveland Catholic Diocese to release its list of priests removed from the church before 2002.

Cardone says the new Jesuit list is good to know, but he worries it will spark post traumatic stress in victims.

“For me it happened when I was 13 and I’m 71 now and it’s just as real as it was when it happened. And I still have the face in the mind of the perpetrator,” Cardone said.  

The Jesuit order says their list is based on investigations that have been completed. Priests currently under investigation were not named.
