If you’re looking to soak up the sun and appreciate local arts this weekend, you might enjoy the Lakewood Arts Festival or the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival performance. For those who’d rather beat the heat indoors, there’s a new exhibit at the Akron Art Museum and more. Here are five events to look out for this week in Northeast Ohio.
BIPOC Author Showcase
Loganberry Books presents its BIPOC Author Showcase as part of its “Author Alley” event where regional writers are present to meet readers, sign books and read portions of their work throughout the day. The showcase is Saturday, August 7, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m., and the featured authors are Echo Brown, Felicia Zamora and Barbara Essex.
'Continuum: Historical Resonances in Contemporary Art'
“Continuum: Historical Resonances in Contemporary Art” opened earlier this month at the Akron Art Museum and will run through February of 2022. The exhibition features the work of five artists whose pieces combine the beauty of past traditions alongside the present. Featured artists include Diana Al-Hadid, Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson, Lori Kella, Marcel Rozek and Antwoine Washington.
Lakewood Arts Festival
The 44 th annual Lakewood Arts Festival is Saturday, August 7, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., on Detroit Ave. between Arthur and Belle avenues. The festival features the works of over 100 juried artists from across the country as well as community booths with live music, food, beverages and activities for children throughout the day.
Cleveland Shakespeare Festival
Experience Tremont presents the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival as part of its “Arts in August” series. The event is Sunday, August 8, 5 p.m., at Lincoln Park and will feature a production of Shakespeare’s work for audience members to enjoy on the lawn.
Edgewater Sidewalk Fest
The Edgewater Sidewalk Fest is Sunday, August 8, 12 – 6 p.m., along Clifton Blvd. between W. 115 th and 117 th streets. The event features live music, fun summer activities, local food vendors, shopping, a pop-up vaccination site and more.
