The end of Women's History Month is near, but there are still many ways to celebrate women with local artists and institutions. From French music to beading, here are five virtual events highlighting women's history and Transgender Day of Visibility this week.
Les Délices
Les Délices' program " Women of Genius" honors women poets, performers and composers throughout 17th and 18th century France. The geniuses take a final bow at the closing reception on Monday, March 29.
Oberlin College
Mvskoke artist Iesha Phillips leads the workshop " Beading Against the Stigma: Native Culture as Prevention" Friday, March 26. She demonstrates her beading and discusses its cultural impact as part of Oberlin's Indigenous Women's Series.
Case Western Reserve University
The 2021 Cleveland Humanities Festival, themed around "Identity," presents a conversation with Joy Harjo, the first U.S. poet laureate from an Indigenous nation. She discusses her acclaimed writing on Monday, March 29.
Baldwin Wallace University
Playwright and actress Nambi E. Kelley, who was chosen by renowned Ohio author Toni Morrison to adapt her novel "Jazz," performs a virtual reading. The Mill Reading Series event premieres Tuesday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m.
TransOhio
TransOhio presents a collection of works for International Transgender Day of Visibility, which occurs annually on the last day of March. The day celebrates the trans community while drawing awareness to their struggles. The project launches on social media Wednesday, March 31.
