WVIZ/PBS ideastream Over-the-Air Signal Restored to Full Power
CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 20, 2019) — WVIZ/PBS ideastream was restored to full broadcast power today, September 20, 2019. The station made the transition to a new frequency in the early morning of August 2, 2019 and had been broadcasting on low power since then. Viewers who watch WVIZ/PBS ideastream using an over-the air-antenna, and who have had either no signal or signal interruptions, should rescan their TVs today. This change also affects the WVIZ/PBS ideastream digital channels, including WVIZ/PBS-HD, WVIZ/PBS OHIO, WVIZ/PBS WORLD, WVIZ/PBS CREATE and WVIZ/PBS KIDS. Viewers currently receiving the station signal do not need to rescan. Cable and satellite viewers are not impacted.
In most cases, if viewers have been experiencing service outages, the station should be restored after a final TV scan. No new devices, equipment or services will be needed to continue receiving the station. The frequency reassignments are part of a project undertaken by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to improve and expand wireless and broadband services. By law, as many as 1,000 TV stations nationwide, both commercial and non-commercial, must change broadcast frequencies by July 3, 2020. The FCC provides funding for the reassignment.
