Democrats have been raising questions about the resignations of Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor’s chief of staff and that chief of staff’s administrative assistant a week ago, and why she turned the matter over to the Inspector General. But Kasich says he backs his lieutenant governor.
"I think she was very disappointed, and we did exactly what you should do when you have a problem like that, and that is it's -- that person is gone, it's been deferred," Kasich said. "And you have 55,000 employees, you're going to have problems. They key is what do you do with it. And I think Mary did the right thing and I support her."
Democrats say an IG investigation isn’t credible, because current IG Randall Meyer used to work for Taylor when she was the state auditor.
But an IG spokesman says he has sworn an oath to be impartial. Taylor has not spoken publicly about the resignations, but said in her letter to the IG that she had allowed the women to work on flexible schedules, but that they claimed more hours away from the office than she had expected.
