The Smart For Two will hit more than 50 cities before its U.S. debut in January 2008. It's 8 feet long and is built with a steel cage similar those seen inside race cars. Interested buyers can put down a $99 refundable deposit to reserve a spot on a growing waiting list. Right now, the company claims over 20,000 have reserved nationwide.
Cindy Hollo of Aurora has already added her name to the list. She first saw a smart car in France nearly 10 years ago. Hollo's interest in the car is simple.
Cindy Hollo: It's a fun car and I think that life should be fun and you should drive a car that is fun. And it also very affordable. And the nice part of it is, you can see I'm very tall. But is a car that accommodates a tall person. It is not only for a small person even though it's a small car.
The small car starts at $12,000 and gets about 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Tasha Flournoy, 90.3.
