Towpath Trail to Come Downtown

Karen Schaefer: This last section will bring the trail from Harvard Ave. right into downtown Cleveland, linking local neighborhoods from both sides of the Cuyahoga River. The segment is part of a larger trail that runs between Akron and Cleveland as part of the Ohio Heritage Corridor. Planners hope the Towpath Trail will do more than connect residents and visitors to the river and to cultural resources like the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Rick Sicha is a Principle Planner with the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission. He says the building of the trail will also be the catalyst for clean-up of an old industrial site that was once involved in the manufacture of the atomic bomb. Sicha says the Towpath Trail will initially follow the east bank of the Cuyahoga, but Planners hope to begin construction on the final leg in three to five years. Karen Schaefer, 90.3 WCPN News.
