Trump second Senate impeachment trial

Attorneys representing former President Donald Trump equated instances of violence and rioting that broke out during protests for racial justice with the Capitol insurrection.

In 2017, several House Democrats stood and objected to the certification of then President-elect Trump's electoral victory. Then-Vice President Biden was presiding.

The defense team played its own videos before the Senate, attempting to show that the former president did not incite the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Impeachment managers argued that not taking action against former President Donald Trump jeopardizes the country's standing in the eyes of the global community.

"This isn't a blood sport. It's not about entertainment. It's about reporting the facts to the American people," David Schoen told Fox News.

Many of the statements referenced in the Senate impeachment trial appear in the criminal cases against the alleged rioters.

House impeachment managers are rebutting claims from Trump's defense team that the trial is politically motivated because Democrats don't want to face Trump in 2024.

Rep. Jamie Raskin played a series of video clips showing the former president encouraging or excusing violence against his perceived political opponents.

Eugene Goodman was shown in a video played during the impeachment trial Wednesday directing Sen. Mitt Romney away from the mob.

The House members are beginning their second and final day of arguments before the defense team presents their side. On Thursday, managers plan to focus on impact "beyond the obvious physical harms."
