Sellers, a Democrat, plans an announcement early this afternoon. The media advisory previewing that kickoff left no doubt about his plans: At the top of the page was a campaign logo reading, “Brad Sellers for County Executive.”

The second-term suburban mayor told Ideastream Public Media on Tuesday that she is suspending her campaign. According to a news release, Blackwell will instead focus on serving out the remaining two years in her term.

The county executive may not carry the history or gravitas of the Cleveland mayor, but the county exec holds plenty of power. The county government runs the jail, owns a Downtown hotel, provides a constellation of social services and manages a $1.5 billion annual budget.

The two-term mayor formally announced her campaign in a news release Wednesday afternoon, saying that the county stood at a crossroads.

Updated: 4:01 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish will not seek reelection to a third term. In a YouTube video released Tuesday announcing his decision, Budish cited the need to set a term-limit precedent and a desire to spend time with his family.
