(EDITOR'S NOTE: As of 11pm, a Kent State Advisory now says that police advise anyone in the Business Administration Building should continue to shelter in place until they are evacuated. The rest of the campus is clear.)
The university advised people to stay put while police searched for the shooter, who has been described as an African-American male carrying a silver handgun and wearing basketball shorts.
University police are handling the investigation and the search for the shooter. Anyone with information can contact law enforcement at 330-672-3070.
The incident follows earlier news of a more violent shooting incident at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, where a gunman injured 16 people, and killed three others before killing himself. And Kent State still struggles with a deadly confrontation in 1970 between Ohio National Guardsmen and Vietnam War protesters. Four protesters were shot and killed, while nine others were wounded.
